Cornerstone Research Group, Inc. (CRG), the sister company of Rushlight Ventures, has been awarded a $1.9 million Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI) contract from AFWERX. This funding will drive forward the development, testing, and certification of CRG’s innovative Ballistic Conformal Battery (BCB), a revolutionary solution designed to enhance power management for military personnel.

The BCB is a wearable, centralized power source seamlessly integrated into body armor vests, providing consistent energy to critical devices such as radio systems, mobile devices, sensors, and communication equipment. The certification process will ensure the BCB meets stringent safety and performance standards necessary for military applications, offering assurance to those who rely on this technology in high-stress environments.

“This TACFI award will help us accelerate the fielding of a product that will significantly enhance soldier safety and operational capability,” said Brian Henslee, vice president of power systems at CRG. “We’re eager to put the BCB into the hands—and vests—of the warfighters who need it most.”

The BCB offers advanced energy solutions that reduce the size and weight of equipment while increasing safety. Demonstrations of various BCB models have shown their ability to deliver between 100 and 300 watt-hours (Wh) of power, with customizable threat protection levels.

At the heart of the BCB is CRG’s cutting-edge battery technology, designed and manufactured in Miamisburg, Ohio. These cells are lightweight, offer longer run times, and perform reliably even in extreme temperatures. CRG’s commitment to a domestic supply chain strengthens the U.S. energy storage sector while aligning with national defense priorities.

As the commercialization partner of CRG, Rushlight Ventures is proud to support the advancement of the BCB and its potential to transform military power systems. To learn more or explore collaboration opportunities, contact Rushlight Ventures.
